David Knight

David's involvement with motor-racing started about five years ago when he joined the BMW Car Club with his father.  Together they started enjoying Motorkhana events and driver-training days at Winton, Calder and Phillip Island race tracks.  This led on to navigation-rallies such as The Dutton and Trading-Post Grand Prix Rally.  Two years ago, after Dad wrote off the family car during a driver-training day at Phillip Island, it was decided that a proper purpose-built race-car was the only way to go if David was to continue to participate in motor-sports.  After a few months of pleading and begging with his sponsor, David was the proud owner of an E30 race car.

The car was one of the first modified for E30 racing, and probably the oldest in the fleet.  As various bits 'fell off' they were replaced, and there is currently very little of original car left.  David [ and Phil ] have also used it to try out some innovations that could be added to other E30's.  It has been noted with some envy that Sleepy [ the car ] is now very hard to pass in a straight line.  David is keen to keep it that way, but the competition is extremely fierce.

With the car running well, driving skill is now the focus.  Personal best result was in the Improved Production race during the 4-hour Enduro meeting at Winton in 2002 - one first place win and two second places.  Now that David has a few seasons under his belt, the goal for this year is to finish in the top three of the championship and not to damage the car too much.
