Geoff Bowles
First car: 1969 HT Holden Kingswood – a fantastic car – 186 power, 3-on-the-tree, bench seat, black vinyl roof – they don’t make ‘em like that anymore!
First BMW: 1976 E12 528 – last of the twin-carburettor big sixes, 4-speed manual. Why didn’t I turn it into a track car??

After joining the BMW Car Club in 2000, I started going to club days and enjoyed the track events and the motorkhanas at DECA.
I started racing in 2001 with my 1988 E30 after realising that the 635CSi would need too many modifications to turn it into a track car. I also needed something to occupy all those otherwise idle weekends and evenings – not! What started as a harmless obsession has threatened to become serious at times.
Since then, I have enjoyed club events, the VMRC races, Island Magic, the Benalla Gold Cup, the Winton 6-hour relay (especially in the rain!), the Octagon series in Tasmania and the Dutton Rally, but the highlight has been at the HQ Enduro meeting last year where E30’s took the honours in all three of the Improved Production races.
I am looking forward to another year of exciting racing and the challenge of keeping up with Sleepy!
