BMW Drivers Cup – Round 8

Matt Martin ended Craig Munro’s domination of the 2007 BMW Driver’s Cup with a brilliant round win at Winton on the weekend of November 10th and 11th, with a second place followed by four consecutive wins.

Serge won the first race by 1.5 seconds from Matt in second, with Oliver a further 4 seconds back in 3rd place.  From then on Matt was never headed, winning race 2 from Geoff by 0.85 seconds with Sheldon in 3rd another half-second back, race 3 from Geoff and Craig with margins of 2.6 and 2 seconds respectively, race 4 from Craig and Geoff with margins of 4.7 and 1 seconds, and race 5 by 1.1 seconds from Craig, with Sheldon in 3rd place another 1.6 seconds back.

Geoff Bowles finished second overall for the weekend, with Sheldon Florence third and Oliver Lindsaar in fourth place.  Other placings were Serge 5th, Michael Stillwell 6th, Paul Kertes 7th, John Roezler 8th and Craig Munro 9th (although Craig only competed in Sunday’s  three races), and did appear to be a bit down on power from his flying performances earlier in the season.

Congratulations to Matt – a round win, 4 wins and a second in 5 races, a personal best qualifying and race time – what more can he achieve? 

All I can say is “Look out in 2008!” – Matt will be the man to beat !!
