Sandown- Round 3 - 2010 BMW Drivers Cup
Another perfect weekend saw 15 e30s enter for the the first dedicated e30 race in years, with four guest drivers (David Coull, Rob Braune, Joe Ardi and Stan Karatzis) joining the regulars. The timetable was also great - Qualifying at 10:10am on Saturday, two races on Saturday afternoon and two on Sunday afternoon. Race 4 was unfortunately cancelled after an incident on turn 11 on lap one - luckily with little damage to the car, and no damage to the driver – stay tuned for the full race summary to come…. |

A beautiful sunny Saturday again saw a total of 14 e30s front up for the combined Improved Production / e30racing qualifying session at 11:15am. The field included Stan Karatzis in his non-regulation car (not eligible for championship points) plus Neil Anderson in his 2.9litre car (racing only in Improved Production). – read on…. |

A field of 13 e30racers took to the track Saturday on a beautiful sunny day in contrast to Melbourne’s day of torrential downpours and flooding, with the wild weather not reaching Winton til the early evening.

Season 2008 opened with a great day/night meeting at Calder Raceway on Saturday 2nd February 2008. Highlights came from the great performance by Stephen Ford, with two second places and a third, fastest race time of the day and an overall win for the meeting. David Levy returning from a 12-month absence wins race 3. |
Matt Martin ended Craig Munro’s domination of the 2007 BMW Driver’s Cup with a brilliant round win at Winton on the weekend of November 10th and 11th, with a second place followed by four consecutive wins. |
E30racing had its "debut" race meeting at Mallala Motor Sport Park (about 60km north of Adelaide) on the weekend of 19th-20th May 2007, when an intrepid band of racers travelled across for their annual "away" race meeting. |
A handful of e30 racers turned up for the Improved Production non-championship round at Sandown on the weekend of 12th – 13th May. Phil Showers also brought his 3-litre M3-engined e30 rocketship along to try to sort out a few niggling problems that will no doubt help him to destroy the Improved Production Class later in the year. |
Round 6 of the BMW Driver’s Cup was held at Calder Park on the weekend of Sep 16/17th. There were 14 BMW E30 racers participating at some point through the weekend, with over 80 cars in 5 categories competing in the VMRC. There were two newcomers for 2006 – Will Gordon having a fling in the avus blue car once owned and raced by his late uncle Andrew, and Dan Coleiro finally back in action with his “new” 325i engine. |
The first round was run at Calder Park Raceway over the weekend of the 19th and 20th February, and saw the emergence in Neil Anderson of the driver/car combination that was to dominate the year and which eventuated in an almost perfect score and the Series Championship win. The year saw the expansion of the E30 Race Series, which commenced in 2001 with a small band of enthusiastic amateurs from the BMW Car Club Victoria, to regular grids of up to sixteen cars. One thing is for sure; with improved drivers and cars, and the injection of fresh new talent, the competition will be tougher than ever in 2006. |

Most people accept that living in Victoria in the month of August means you get heaped on by rain and snow, and that generally miserable weather is the norm; day in, day out. Not so for the 5 th round of the BMW Driver’s Cup being held at Winton Raceway in Central Victoria, where driver’s and spectators alike were treated to clear blue skies and a warm weekend of excellent close racing. |
What a great weekend’s racing, and what a successful round of the BMW Drivers Cup. The Hero of the Meet? Neil Anderson, with a scintillating performance from both driver and car. Everybody wanted to look under Ando’s hood to see what kind of jet engine he had in there, he so comprehensively blitzed the field. A great drive and a great performance, Neil. |
And there we were. The First Race of the season. The First Race of the E30 Drivers Cup. History in the making. Tell me, dear reader, why it is that, after sitting there for several minutes on the track, focussed on the coming race, concentrating on the starter, the 30 second sign, the five second indication, it’s always such a surprise when that red light goes out. |
What a change in weather since the last round held here in May. It was cool and cloudy, but the sun shone at times on the Friday Practice day. And then the sun shone for the rest of the weekend despite overnight rain on Friday and Saturday nights. |
Calder Park in winter conjures up images of black skies, driving rain and arctic temperatures. What a pleasant surprise it was then to be greeted by clement weather for E30 Racing's Round 3 in May. |
Despite atrocious weather conditions, a great time was had by all. The E30 competitors and their cars arrived and left in one piece, whilst friendships and sporting rivalries were made. |
This three day tarmac rally is based in Burnie and covers many of the great roads around the northwest of Tasmania. M any of the cars entered including us use this rally as a shakedown for the big race Targa Tasmania. |
Andrew and I enjoyed Rally Tasmania 2003 even more than 2002.Over the 3 days we would travel a total distance of 730km including 157km of closed sections broken up into 16 stages. |
What a weekend it was, full of joys, dramas and disappointments. Leaving everyone very much looking forward to the next round at Sandown on 5/6 of April. |
The first round of the 2003 season saw some serious day/night action on the short track at Calder. |
December saw the highlight of the 2002 Improved Production season, the HQ 4-Hour Enduro meeting at Winton.
And what a highlight it was! |
